What could it mean?
A snake doesn't have one universal meaning. What it was doing — and how you felt — may matter more than the snake itself.
— Vera
Snakes are one of the oldest images we dream about, and one of the most contradictory. In one dream a snake is a threat you cannot get away from; in another it is calm, and so are you. That difference is not a detail. It is usually the whole reading.
Snake dreams are often connected to something felt as a threat: a situation you are keeping an eye on, a tension you cannot name, or something you have been avoiding. Fear in the dream matters more than the snake — a snake you were not afraid of tends to read very differently.
Few animals carry as many meanings at once. A snake sheds its skin, so it stands for transformation and renewal; it strikes, so it stands for danger; it tempts, so it stands for something you want and mistrust. Which of those applies usually depends on what it did.
Across traditions the snake appears as energy, healing and change — coiled at the base of the spine in some, wrapped around a staff as a sign of medicine in others, guarding a threshold in others still. The common thread is movement between one state and the next.
Your dream is more than one symbol.
A snake you held and a snake that struck are not the same dream. Tell Vera what actually happened.
Interpret my dream →Is dreaming about snakes bad?
Not necessarily. Snakes carry threat and renewal at the same time, and dreamers report both. A snake you were calm around is a very different dream from one you ran from, and the fear is usually the more telling half.
What does being bitten by a snake in a dream mean?
Being bitten adds contact and consequence to the dream: something got through. People connect it most often to a situation that finally reached them after being watched from a distance. What happened after the bite is worth as much as the bite.
What does a black snake in a dream mean?
Colour is one of the details dreamers remember most clearly, which is a good sign it carries weight. Black is commonly connected to something unseen or unacknowledged rather than to danger as such — but a colour you noticed strongly is worth reading together with how you felt, not on its own.
What does a green snake in a dream mean?
Green is most often connected to growth and to something alive and continuing. In snake dreams it tends to appear in the calmer ones rather than the frightening ones, though that is a tendency and not a rule.
Why do I keep dreaming about snakes?
A repeating image is the most interesting thing a dream can do. It rarely repeats identically: the snake moves closer or further away, or you react to it differently. That change from one night to the next is usually where the meaning sits — and it is exactly what you cannot see without a record of your earlier dreams.
